Award-winning artist comes to Caroline Springs

An exhibition combining the work of local school students and an internationally renowned artist will be on show at CS Gallery throughout July

Real Local is a series of intimate, vibrant portraits by award-winning artist Atong Atem which delve into how we construct images to understand ourselves and our history.

The work was recently exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and internationally in New York and Milan.

Real Local will also display works from a collaborative project with local students from Staughton College and Melton Secondary College who created their own self-portraits during a four-week mentoring program with Atem.

Melton Mayor Kathy Majdlik encouraged residents to visit the exhibition during these school holidays.

There will also be an exhibition at Melton library throughout July until September 9.

“These exhibitions each tell a special story that will resonate with so many people,” Cr Majdlik said.

“It’s fantastic to see the creative works of highly talented locally and internationally recognised artists on display here in the City of Melton.

“Art like this is inspiring, fun, and thought-provoking and I’d encourage everyone to take the opportunity to experience these exhibitions, especially these school holidays.”

Real Local will be on show from July 1 through to July 25.
