The Brimbank Community and Civic Centre is lighting up the night in support of local artists.

An art projection will be shown on a big screen at the centre nightly, as part of the Light up Sunshine project.

Ash Coates is the first artist to have his work projected, with his piece ‘Mycorrhizalit Comes In Waves’.

Coates is a commercial mural artist and creates animated works that are exhibited in film festivals and projection festivals around the world.

Mycorrhizalit Comes In Waves was inspired by the time he developed an illness during an artist’s residency in Scotland.

Coates’ work will be screened nightly for two months, before another artist’s work is displayed as part of a rotational gallery of projections.

Brimbank mayor Ranka Rasic said gallery projections offered the Sunshine community access to incredible free art forms to enjoy.

“These projections will be very visible to train travellers passing through Sunshine as they make their way in and out of the city.

“Brimbank is blessed with the amount of amazing public art installations available for all of our community to experience.”

Brimbank council will put out an expression of interest later in the year for local artists who would like to be featured in the projections.
