A charity swim has turned into an artistic dream for a Cairnlea graphic designer.
Raymond Lim was taking part in a 24-hour swim at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in May this year when his artistic streak kicked in.
“It was a long swim, so we had a bit of time on our hands between laps,” Lim said. “While I was waiting for my swim, I did a water colour sketch of the event, uploaded it to my Instagram and tagged MSAC,” he said.
“A couple of months later, the people at MSAC called me and asked if I wanted to do a mural to celebrate their 21st birthday.
“At first I thought it was a joke, but I met them soon after and that turned into disbelief that I was able to do such a big project.”
The mural showcases the wide variety of sports played at the centre.
“At first I was thinking I’d include around five sports, but after our initial meetings, we decided to go with all of them which ended up being about 15,” he said.
“It posed its challenges – showcasing 15 sports and 18 people – but it came up great.
“One of the most heartwarming things was the reaction of people, particularly children who kept coming up and telling me what a great job I was doing.”
