Two Sunshine sisters have turned their love of their neighbourhood into colourful works of art.

The artworks created by Ruby, 9, and Willow, 7 will feature prominently at Gallery Sunshine during the Brimbank council’s Neighbour Day exhibition.

The exhibition features works by 20 local artists, which includes drawings and a moving image projection.

Willow said the sisters’ creations were inspired by their neighbour and his dogs.

“Alan’s dogs Rowdy and Paddy are super cute and they always walk past – they used to come in our yard to say hello to our guinea pigs,” Willow said.

For Ruby, the exhibition also gave her the chance to showcase the things she loves most about living in Brimbank.

“I love the great parks we have everywhere – there’s a lot to choose from,” she said.

This year Neighbour Day will be held on Sunday, March 25 and Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the occasion continues to grow.

“By all accounts, the Brimbank community loves this program and we are pleased to offer the $250 Neighbour Day grants to residents to organise activities to bring people together in their neighbourhood,” Cr Giudice said.

“Building strong communities is incredibly important. As a council, we are proud to support residents to get to know their neighbours, welcome newcomers and encourage healthy, safe and well connected neighbourhoods.”

So far 27 grants have been awarded.

The exhibition runs until April 25.
