Arson detectives charge man with murder following Albanvale fire

Arson and Explosives Squad detectives have charged a 38-year-old man with a number of offences including murder and attempted murder following a fatal house fire in Albanvale in March.

In a Victoria Police statement, a police spokesperson said the man had been under police guard in hospital since the incident on Monday, March 14 and was interviewed and charged on Thursday, May 19.

According to the statement, the man would face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 19.

The charges related to an incident where emergency services attended a Sutherland Street address at about 5.20pm on Monday, March 14.

Ambulance services conveyed a 36-year-old woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries, who subsequently passed away on Tuesday, March 15.

According to the statement, emergency services also transported a 17-year-old girl to hospital with serious injuries.

The statement said that police are not seeking any other individuals in relation to the incident.
