All eyes on donations

A Taylors Lakes optometry store is hoping to provide a clearer vision this Christmas, with a call for donations of pre-loved glasses.

As part of the Lions Recycle for Sight program, Specsavers Taylors Lakes is collecting old glasses and sunglasses, to be delivered to those in need overseas.

Optometrist Andrew Arnell said it was a program his store had huge support for.

“We’re encouraging customers to donate their pre-loved glasses and give the gift of sight to someone in need for Christmas,” Mr Arnell said.

“We’ve set ourselves a target of collecting 100 pairs of glasses … but the more we can collect, the better because every pair of glasses will make a significant difference.”

Collected glasses will be sent to Lions Recycle for Sight’s glasses recycling facility where they are checked for quality, cleaned and categorised.

If they pass the quality tests, they are then distributed to people in need overseas through partnering charities and humanitarian organisations.

“Since partnering with Lions over 10 years ago we have already helped collect over 3000 pre-loved glasses and we hope that donations will continue to grow,” Mr Arnell said.

Glasses can be donated in store until Christmas.
