A recently established studio in Sunshine is offering visitors the chance to observe a wide range of print-making techniques in action.

The Sunshine Print Artspace will hold an open day this Saturday from 2-4pm.

Artist Adrian Spurr said the event was all about providing insights into the print art world.

“The open day is an opportunity to have visitors come into the space, have a look at what we’re doing here and learn about how they can participate,” he said.

“There’s a lot of machinery around here and each one is individual with a different process.

“We’re giving the public the opportunity to have a look at a professional print studio in action.”

During the day, Spurr and fellow artists Phillip Doggett-Williams and Julia Raath will hold demonstrations of lithography, collagraph printing, textile block printing and screen printing.

Following the open day demonstrations, there will be a program of workshops on offer in which beginners and more experienced artists will be able to learn techniques and use the facilities at SPA on a regular basis.

“We offer services for established and emerging artists, but we want to open it up to the general public for workshops,” Spurr said.

“We’ll be offering workshops in lithography, relief printing and textile silk screening.

“They’ll be staged progressively through the year with the hope to develop the print studio into a place to hold other arts events such as poetry readings. We want to create an important arts hub for Sunshine.”
