African group among Brimbank top award winners

A prominent African group which mentors young artistic talent within its community was among those to be recognised at this year’s Brimbank council awards for excellence.

Africa Day Australia Inc youth program director Kevin Kapke said the group won the We Are Brimbank Awards Youth Impact category because it helped African youth find their way including through the arts.

“You have young people that are having issues with their identity,” he said.

“They can tell their own story through performance.”
