AFL’s holy grail is coming to Brimbank

An Ardeer school’s love of the Western Bulldogs has brought the premiership cup to Brimbank.

The Star Weekly has been told the cup will be delivered to Mother of God Primary School on Friday morning at 10am on October 21 by Western Bulldogs staff as a way of thanking the school for its ongoing support.

The cup will also visit Albion North Primary School on the morning of October 20 and Sunshine Harvester primary school the same week.

The Dogs claimed their second ever premiership cup on Saturday when they beat the Sydney Swans by 22 points, ending a 62 year drought.

Mother of God PS Principal Matthew Shawcross wasn’t sure who was bringing the cup, but it’s unlikely to be any premiership players, who are currently enjoying their off-season break.

“The club contacted us on Monday and said they’d be contacting a few schools across the west to come out with the cup,” he said.

“The kids are very excited, they’ll be able to get their photo taken with it. A lot of our kids are Doggie supporters.”

The stop-by is part of an official arrangement with the Western Bulldogs, where the school enjoys visits from players several times a year for clinics and talks.

The Dogs-loving school took its support for the team to a whole new level on Wednesday this week.

The school is now playing the Dogs’ theme song as its new school bell, it painted a large wall in the colours of the Dogs, decorated the school with banners and posters and also made Grade Six student Nathan, who attended the Grand Final on Saturday, official principal for the day.

Hot dogs and blue cordial were also downed for lunch.
