The number of active cases of COVID-19 within Brimbank has fallen by three.
Statistics released by the Department of Health and Human Services show the number of active cases has dropped from 78 to 75 in the past 24 hours.
However Brimbank still has the fourth highest number of active cases in the state.
While a number of suburbs around the municipality were already in lockdown, statewide restrictions will be ushered in tonight.
Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said they’d remain in place for six weeks.
“These restrictions have become necessary because of the sharp increase in cases,” professor Sutton said.
“If you live in these areas, there’ll be only four reasons to leave your home: shopping for food and essential items; care and caregiving; daily exercise; and work and study, if you can’t do it from home.”
Restaurants and cafes will return to takeaway and delivery services only, and beauty and personal services will also close.
Entertainment and cultural venues will also be required to close while community sport will also stop.
But from Monday, all Year 11 and Year 12 students will go back to school for term three, along with special schools.
The holidays have been extended for a week for Prep to Year 10 students.
