Act up for the holidays

Two local teachers with a passion for the arts will put on extensive art and drama workshops these school holidays.

Jessica Gerger and Liz Dalgleish were inspired to start the workshops after identifying a lack of options in the west.

“These workshops will really focus on drama and art,” Ms Gerger said.

“We really just thought there was a lack of options in this space for students in the west and wanted to do something about it.”

Held from Monday, July 2 to Thursday, July 5 at Kororoit Creek Neighbourhood House, Albion, the workshops will build on the children’s creative talents and culminate in a performance.

“We’ll do things like create sets, costume and work on skills, which will all be put towards the final performance after our final class on the Thursday.”

Ms Dalgleish said the benefits would extend beyond the skills in the arts.

“Encouraging students to get the creative juices flowing has the potential to help in so many aspects of their life, so it’s not just about the performing,” Ms Dalgleish said.

Ms Gerger said the duo have an encouraging number of enrolments for the workshop, but are open to more students.

“There’s enough enrolments to run the classes, but we’d of course like to see more,” Ms Gerger said. “It’s something we’ll definitely look to keep going with.”
