Sunshine West acid tank rupture burns workers

A Sunshine West factory worker was rushed to hospital this morning with chemical burns following a chemical spill.

The man, in his 30s, was sprayed with acid when a 1000 litre tank of acrylic acid ruptured at the Law Court factory around 8am.

He suffered minor chemical burns to his face, neck, chest and arms.

“Luckily he was wearing protective eyewear,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

He was taken to the Alfred Hospital and is a stable condition.

A second worker also received minor acid burns to his hands and was treated by Ambulance Victoria.

Worksafe are investigating the cause of the rupture.
