The Australian Open may be over for another year, but the memories will live long in the mind of Braybrook eight-year-old Morgan Vong.
Morgan joined seven other children at the open as winners of the Hot Shot of the Year competition, getting the chance to attend the open and meet some of his tennis heroes.
“Having the opportunity to go there was fantastic,” Morgan said.
“I wrote about Alex de Minaur and how he’s my favourite player and why I admire him, so that’s how I got to go. I love how he never gives up.
“Getting the chance to meet some famous players was pretty cool, and having a hit on Rod Laver Arena was a lot of fun.”
Morgan has been playing tennis for four years at his local club.
As well as meeting Australian wheelchair tennis star Dylan Alcott, he said the highlight was meeting the man Melbourne Park’s main stadium is named after.
“I got to meet Rod Laver,” he said.
“He’s a legend so I was pretty excited to meet him. He was really nice too.
“Dylan interviewed us and we got to know him better, which was lots of fun. I’d love to play at the Australian Open one day like them, 100 per cent.
“It was the experience of a lifetime.”
