A force for unity

Connectwest team Jacinta Martin, Parminder Kaur, Tharindu Jayadeva and Helen Scudamore are putting the final touches on the Treasures of the West Expo.

A collection of the west’s community groups will come together under one roof this Saturday.

Connectwest – aimed at enabling connections and collaboration between community groups, leaders and volunteers in the west – is holding its first expo, Treasures in the West.

Connectwest co-chair Jacinta Martin said the expo would provide an ideal environment for community groups to forge relationships.

“The idea behind this is for community groups to come together and market their services and groups and their facilities in a free, friendly and fun environment,” she said.

“It’s a great way to provide connections, foster relationships and reduce overlap in the volunteer sector.”

The expo has been a long time in the making, with a core group of volunteers working hard for the past six months to make it a reality.

“We’ve got quite a range of organisations on board,” Ms Martin said. “We’ve got not-for-profit, religious groups, a couple of local council groups.

“When you walk in, you’ll see all the stalls so people can have a walk around … people from local groups will be giving keynote speeches, training sessions and introductions to their services. There will also be food and a children’s performer.”

The expo will be held at the Sunshine Convention Centre on Saturday from 10am.
