Sunshine’s renowned multiculturalism will be showcased when the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival comes to town.
Sunshine Food Fever will take diners on a food journey which reflects the successive waves of Asian, African and Indian immigration which combine to make Sunshine one of Brimbank’s favourite eating precincts.
The journey begins at Classic Curry, where diners will meet local Indian chefs Dhiraj and Aash before sampling cuisine from their motherland and hearing the story of how they came to call Sunshine home.
Diners will then enjoy an array of Ethiopian dishes at Walia Ibex and Afghan food at Afghan Shaheen.
The night ends with dessert celebrating Sunshine’s North Vietnamese community at Xuan Banh Cuon.
Xuan Banh Cuon owner Carson Luk said the festival offers local restaurants the chance to showcase their food to people from outside Brimbank.
“We really wanted people from outside of Sunshine to get to know the multicultural aspects of the food within here,” he said.
“We get a lot of locals knowing that this is a great area for multicultural food options, but not so much from people outside of the west.
“Teaming up with the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has sort of given us that reach to press outside of the west.”
Sunshine Food Fever will be held across three nights, Friday, March 16, Saturday, March 17 and Thursday, March 22 from 6.30-9pm.
