More than 600 suburbs across the country now have more than 50 per cent 5G coverage.

In Brimbank, Ardeer, Brooklyn, Derrimut, Keilor, St Albans and Sunshine West are more than half covered by the new mobile technology.

Telstra regional general manager Loretta Willaton said it’s a big step in the continued rollout and investment in 5G technology.

“2020 is going to be the year of 5G and our focus is on continuing to expand our 5G coverage so we can bring it to more areas across Melbourne and Victoria,” Ms Willaton said.

“5G is delivering faster download speeds, lower latency and greater network capacity to our users which is especially important in busy areas in Melbourne.”

“It’s not just 5G users experiencing the benefits of this rollout – by upgrading our sites to 5G we’re also bringing network benefits to other users including greater network capacity for 4G customers.”

Telstra says it remains on track to deliver 5G into selected areas of 35 cities by mid-year.

There are currently 57 suburbs across Melbourne which now have more than 50 per cent coverage to the 5G network.
