25 arrested over Brimbank vehicle thefts

Twenty five people have been arrested and four stolen cars retrieved in Brimbank following a four day operation targeting vehicle crime.

Operation Proactor from March 9 to 12, involving local police and detectives from Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit, targeted “volume crime” such as theft from cars, theft of cars and burglary in known hot spots across the municipality.

Four infringement notices were issued as 115 people and 202 cars were checked.

Stolen tools, sporting goods and mobile phone equipment were also returned to their owners.

Several people wanted on outstanding warrants were also netted by the operation.

Detective Senior Constable Anna Kirishian said the operation was designed to both disrupt and deter offending in the Brimbank area.

“Brimbank is a great place to live and work, and we want people to know these types of offences are unacceptable here,” she said.

“By proactively targeting those involved in crimes such as burglary and theft it not only reduces crime but stops more people becoming unnecessary victims.

“We spoke to a lot of people in the community over the four days and received a really positive reaction to the operation.”

Anyone with information about criminal activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
