Parking woes at Keilor Plains train station look set to be lessened when 220 additional car parking spaces are built later this year.
The 2016-17 State Budget included $20 million to expand car parks at outer suburban train stations, including enough funds for the additional 220 car parking spaces at the St Albans train station.
The announcement is welcome news for fed-up commuters who have been fined by Brimbank council for parking on nearby nature strips when the train station car park is at capacity.
St Albans MP Natalie Suleyman said population growth in the suburb was adding to the pressure on car parking at Keilor Plains.
“This critical investment will reduce the daily scramble to get a park and mean more choice for more people in St Albans and Keilor Downs about how they get around,” she said.
Staged construction is expected to begin later this year.
Ms Suleyman said further site investigations and detailed design for each site will need to be undertaken.
