Two teenagers have been arrested following an attempted armed robbery at a Caroline Springs restaurant and Sydenham bottle shop last night.

Armed with metal bars and meat cleavers, and their faces covered in bandanas, three males smashed their way into the Slices restaurant, on Lake Street, about 9.50pm on Thursday.

Footage and photos of the incident show smashed windows and glass and coins scattered across the floor.

Police say the intruders attempted to steal the cash register but left empty-handed, fleeing in a Honda sedan before making their way to a bottle shop on Hume Drive, Sydenham.

A staff member at the bottle shop picked up a baseball bat and the offenders fled empty-handed. No one was injured during the incidents.
