UPDATE: A St Albans family have had a fiery but fortunate morning, after their Shirley Street home caught fire on Monday.
Five children and six adults had already evacuated the single-storey weatherboard house when firefighters arrived about 6am.
Acting Fire Services Communications Controller Steve Moore said the fire started in the family’s living room, and half of the house was ablaze when six firetrucks arrived.
“It’s not suspicious, and our fire investigation team are looking at the cause,” Mr Moore said.
“Crew on scene haven’t been able to determine why it started. We’re relieved everyone was OK and able to get out before we arrived.”
The blaze took 45 minutes to put out, and the damage bill is yet to be determined.
