Braybrook finally has a library to call its own following construction of the $12.5 million Braybrook Community Hub.
The new hub, officially opened last Wednesday, also includes a sports pavilion, learning centre and integrated early-years centre, as well as a café, prayer room and spaces for community programs.
Health and support services are being delivered from the hub by cohealth.
The Braybrook hub took 15 months to build, with $9 million funding from Maribyrnong council and $3.5 million from the state government.
Families and Children Minister Jenny Mikakos joined Footscray MP Marsha Thomson and Maribyrnong mayor Nam Quach to officially open the hub.
Ms Mikakos said the project ensured services had the space and flexibility needed to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early-years programs.
“This new centre will meet the demand for services and give Braybrook families the quality facilities and programs their kids deserve.
“Bringing services together in a convenient one-stop community hub makes sense for families and children.”
The hub, built in one of the state’s most disadvantaged areas, is also home to maternal and child health services as well as a community garden, Men’s Shed and public artwork.
It was constructed as part of the Revitalising Braybrook Action Plan, which aims to improve education, transport, employment and training in the area, as well as safety, housing and infrastructure.
Maribyrnong council has partnered with a number of government and community organisations in an effort to bring the area’s infrastructure and services up to par with the rest of the municipality.
