Avoid the St Albans Main Road level crossing this Saturday to avoid traffic chaos.

That’s the word from VicRoads, which will be shutting down the level crossing between midnight, Friday, March 20, and midnight, Saturday, March 21, as part of the St Albans Level Crossing Removal Project.

VicRoads project director Frank De Santis said Main Road East would be shut down from the St Albans Road and East Esplanade intersection, while Main Road West would be shut down from the McKechnie Street and West Esplanade intersection.

Mr De Santis said traffic would be diverted via the Station Road and Kings Road intersection, and Sunshine Avenue.

“Pedestrian and local traffic access will continue with shops trading as usual along Main Road, however road users won’t be able to travel through the level crossing and will be detoured,” he said.

“Road users are asked to take particular care travelling through the St Albans area and to follow the detour routes that will be in place for that 24-hour period.”
