Cairnlea: Garbage emptied on Furlong Road as truck catches fire

A garbage truck emptied its load on the side of Furlong Road in Cairnlea on Monday morning, after the drivers realised the contents of the vehicle were alight.

Two MFB crews attended the grimey scene near the intersection of Cairnlea Drive about 8.15am.

An MFB spokesman said the only way to deal with the roaring rubbish fire was to tip the contents of the truck out.

“That was the only way the crews were able to deal with it,” the MFB spokesman said.

“We then notified [Brimbank] council to come with their little bobcat to clear it up.”

The crews from Sunshine and Deer Park left at 9.30am, with the council crew later cleaning up the site.
