Two corrections officers have been taken to hospital after being injured in an incident at the Ravenhall women’s correctional facility.
The incident occurred at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre at Ravenhall. Police and paramedics were called just before midday on Friday.
The facility was placed in lockdown following the incident.
The injured staff members received medical treatment at the centre for non-life threatening injuries and have been taken to hospital for further treatment.
Ambulance Victoria spokesperson Paul Bentley said they were in a stable condition.
“The safety and security of our staff is our highest priority,” a Corrections Victoria spokesperson said.
“Corrections Victoria takes any assault or allegation of assault on staff very seriously. Police and corrections authorities will thoroughly investigate the incident.”
The Ravenhall prison is a maximum security prison, but takes prisoners of all security ratings. It accommodates 386 women.
