A Taylors Lakes speedster has bought and temporarily lost his new car in the same day, after it was impounded by police yesterday.
Brimbank Highway Patrol used a roadside immobilisation clamp last night to impound the P-plater’s car for 30 days, after he was caught speeding in Taylors Lakes.
Highway patrol members were stopped on the Melton Highway when the VW Golf GTI caught their eye as it sped past them near Parmelia Way, about 9.45pm.
The driver, 20, was detected travelling 60km/h over the speed limit, in an 80km/h zone.
He told police he had bought his car that morning, and was also carrying four people.
The car will remain on the side of the road for about 72 hours.
As long as it is not creating a hazard and is legally parked, the roadside immobilisation means the car does not have to be towed immediately.
The car will then be towed at a later date to the owner’s home, or the impound yard at a cost to the owner.
It is expected the man will be charged with excessive speed.
The use of the roadside immobilisation clamp is a first for Victoria Police, which is trialling the clamps as part of a pilot project in Brimbank and Nunawading.
