Eight people were forced to flee their Cairnlea home when a fire broke out in a bedroom just before 5pm yesterday.
No one was severely injured in the blaze, but a 70-year-old resident needed treatment from ambulance paramedics after falling.
The top level of the two-storey Flowerdale Road home was “severely damaged”, a Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman said.
The damage bill is expected to top $200,000, he said.
Fire investigators will return to the house this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.
