Two Marian College students will get the work experience of a lifetime these school holidays after taking out a Victoria University competition.
Year 10 students Elisa Tohi and Rosette Davin will do work experience at Nova and the Just Group (owner of seven stationery and retail brands), respectively, after winning VU’s “work experience of a lifetime” competition.
Elisa is doing her work experience this week, with Rosette up for it next week.
“I’m really nervous but also excited because I’ll be around people with the same interests and I’ll get to learn more from them,” Rosette said. “I know I’ll be doing some days with the advertising branch of Just Group, which I’m really excited about, and I’ll be able to see the new products that are coming out.”
Elisa will be sitting in on the breakfast shows for Smooth FM and Nova FM as part of her work experience, and will also sit in on advertising and ratings meetings. To top it off, she will be hitting the streets with Nova’s Casanova team. “Rosette and I were together when we found out [we had won],” Elisa said.
“She got a phone call and when she finished, she told me what had happened and then my phone started ringing.” Rosette and Elisa were among five students to score a work experience placement.
Meanwhile, fellow year 10 student Pelenatete Soo Choon missed out on her dream work experience job at Leo Burnett Advertising, but was thrilled nonetheless to score an iPad. “When I got the phone call, I was happy. Even though I didn’t get a placement, my hard work paid off.” The VU competition pairs up five year 10 and 11 students with one of the university’s program partners to try their hand at a career they’re interested in.
