Police car rammed in Sunshine by ice-smoking man a write-off, say officer

A Brimbank police car is feared to be a write-off following a ramming incident in Sunshine last month.

It follows a series of thefts from 10 different locations in Sunshine and Caroline Springs after a credit card was stolen from an unattended handbag at a Deer Park medical centre in Hatchlands Road just before 9am on May 16.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information on a man and woman who allegedly netted about $3000 worth of cigarettes, alcohol, mobile phones and clothing.

Detective Senior Constable Matt Pesci said police wanted to speak to the couple who they believe was also involved in a police vehicle being rammed on Thursday, May 22.

“It’s [the car] gonna be a write-off, it’s pretty badly damaged,” he said. “We have a fairly good idea of who they are but we cannot say who as there are outstanding court matters.”

Police allege they approached a car parked in Clarke Street, Sunshine, which had been reported as stolen.

As police approached the vehicle they saw a man and a woman sitting in the front seat smoking an ice pipe.

When police knocked on the passenger side window the driver put the car into reverse and accelerated heavily, slamming into the marked police vehicle, causing extensive damage.

The driver then drove forward, causing the police members to take evasive action to avoid injury.
