Sunshine stabbing: Witnesses describe horror scene

Sunshine traders and shoppers have described the horror of seeing a woman stabbed to death in broad daylight.

Restaurant owner Vu said the woman, who he had often seen in the Hampshire Street area, was involved in an argument with a man before she was stabbed shortly before 12.30pm last Wednesday.

“The girl was running away from him and they were having a loud fight,” he said.

Real estate agent Anjana said she ran from her office when she heard screaming.

She first saw a man running away before noticing the woman lying in a pool of blood on the other side of the road.

“There was a lady bleeding, and a few people were trying to do CPR on her. There was a lot of blood,” Anjana said.

Witness Le Hai, holding his six-month-old baby, looked on in horror as the violence broke out.

“There were a lot of people around at the time,” he said.

“This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this in my life.”

Phuong Nguyen, the manager of a nearby cafe, said one of his regular customers, a doctor, ran to help the woman before police and paramedics arrived.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the woman was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived.

The woman was pronounced dead about 12.30pm.
