Controversial plans for the extension of a Ravenhall landfill should be halted until “significant” odour issues have been addressed, say Brimbank council officers.
Officers have urged council’s three administrators to object to Boral’s plans for an extension until odour issues are resolved at tomorrow night’s meeting.
“Council have received a number of complaints from Brimbank residents about amenity issues in relation to the current operation of the landfill,” a report found.
“Residents have indicated the odour from the landfill is significant, and are personally recording the date and times of odour occurences.”
It also said “an additional buffer area of 1000 metres is required within the premiter of the proposed landfill site to provide a suitable additional distance from existing and proposed buildings and structures”, subject to EPA guidelines.
A 500-metre buffer is currently proposed.
Council officers also advised that the area of proposed expansion be reduced in size to enable future expansion to be approved in stages.
Officers have also mooted an objection to the extension of a landfill in Truganina.
Council has no jurisdiction over both matters, however it can raise concerns.
