No charges laid yet over violent Deer Park killing

A group of people arrested after a Diggers Rest man was killed during a home invasion in Deer Park have been released without charge.

Police believe a group of more than 10 men in their late teens and early 20s, forced their way into the house with seven people inside.

It’s thought the two groups know each other. Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Tremain said the weapons used may have included machetes. Police were called about 10pm after neighbours heard screams and breaking glass.

One neighbour reported seeing a group of men with metal bars, timber and possibly baseball bats outside the house earlier.

The neighbour said the men “rushed the house”.

When police arrived, a 20-year-old man was dead, another man had cuts to his hand and a woman was treated for leg injuries.

Investigations are continuing
