Brigette stands at top as Brimbank’s best are honoured

A lifelong dedication to caring for more than 600 disadvantaged children has led to Cairnlea’s Brigette Baker being named Brimbank’s citizen of the year.

Fostering children has been Ms Baker’s passion – she’s devoted 27 years of her life to those who have suffered grief, loss or trauma. She has also been a tireless worker for University Park Primary School’s parents and friends association.

Ms Baker was recognised at a presentation ceremony at Overnewton Castle on January 20.

Keilor’s Edward Buijs, 19, was named young citizen of the year. Mr Buijs travelled to Papua New Guinea as part of a humanitarian aid program.

Phoenix Street Children’s Centre won the community wellbeing award after producing an information guide.

Sunshine’s Bruce White won the cultural achievement award and Jackson School’s Bev Fagan was named educator of the year.

Sunshine Lions Club was presented with an achievement award after celebrating 60 years of serving the community.
