St Albans death: police appeal for information

Homicide Squad detectives are appealing to the public for information about the death of 18-year-old St Albans man Hieu Nguyen in May last year.

Mr Hieu’s body was located on the front nature strip of Sunshine Hospital in Majorca Street, St Albans about 5.30am on Saturday, May 11.

Detectives believe a burnt out car, located in Plumpton later that morning, was involved.

A light blue coloured Honda Civic sedan was located on a rural property in Leakes Road, Plumpton about 9am.

A witness has told police they saw a vehicle matching that description being driven erratically by a man with dark coloured hair along the Keilor Melton Highway near the intersection of Kings Road, Taylors Lakes about 8am that morning.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector John Potter appealed to anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area on the day, to contact police.

“It’s important for us and for Mr Nguyen’s family, to find out what happened to him that day,” Inspector Potter said.

“If we can piece together the movements of that vehicle between 5am and 9am and identify who was driving it, we may be one step closer to doing that.

“I’m also appealing for anyone that may have noticed the car in the vicinity of Majorca Street in St Albans around 5.30am to come forward.”

Detectives have released photos of the burnt out car, along with a photo of a similar model car in the hope that someone will remember seeing it and contact them.

Anyone with information about Mr Nguyen’s death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au.
