Melton council could join a local government transport group that is seeking to secure effective, efficient and equitable transport across metropolitan Melbourne.
Council representatives met with members of the Metropolitan Transport Forum last Tuesday to discuss joining the group, which includes 23 councils around Melbourne.
The forum is designed to provide a platform for debate, research and policy development, with a major focus on transport and roads in growth areas.
Council chief executive Kel Tori said the meeting covered the benefits and purpose of the forum. “The council will consider becoming a member of the forum at a future council meeting,’’ he said, adding that there was a membership fee to take into account.
“In the past 12 months the group has sought to expand its membership base to include outer growth areas. It recognises that for the metropolitan transport system to be effective, a more holistic approach is required.”
