Sunshine library and Brimbank council’s Sunshine customer service centre will be temporarily relocated to make way for construction of a $55 million Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.
Council chairman John Watson said the library and customer service centre would be moved to the nearby Sunshine municipal office precinct, in McCracken Street, early next year.
Construction of the new community and civic centre will begin mid-year.
“Prior to the library and customer service centre relocating, council will undertake a significant campaign to ensure the community is informed of the changes and when they are happening,” Mr Watson said.
While the temporary library space will be slightly smaller, the council said it would adequately display the library’s collection.
Sunshine library is one of the state’s busiest, with more than 400,000 visits per year.
