The second stage of the M80 Western Ring Road upgrade is complete, with all lanes between the Western Highway in Sunshine West and Sunshine Avenue in St Albans being opened last week.
Federal Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Warren Truss said the opening of four lanes in each direction, and five between Western Highway and Tilburn Road, would improve traffic flow for more than 142,000 motorists a day.
State Roads Minister Terry Mulder said drivers would benefit from on-road and overhead electronic messaging.
“The lane-use management system will operate between the Western Highway and Sunshine Avenue, allowing VicRoads to adjust the speed limit and lane availability to suit road conditions and improve overall safety,” he said.
Electronic signs displaying travel times for destinations, including Melbourne Airport, have been switched on at the Tullamarine Freeway interchange and near Airport Drive.
