IN FOCUS: Midway is the concrete destination

Not long ago, David Boxhall and his 80-man crew from Midway Concrete & Gardening Supplies pulled up stumps after many years in Sunshine and established a 20,000-square-metre super plant at Laverton, Victoria’s largest.

Midway was a small minimix and garden supplies business when David took ownership 17 years ago.

He’d had a 30-year spell as a concreter before that, running his own contracting business and working on some of Melbourne’s largest projects.

David says that today, with Midway’s 50-strong fleet of maxi, mini and tip trucks (with carrying capacities up to 22 cubic metres), they can meet every type of concrete/soil/product delivery from a vast range of choices.

“Our specialty is decorative concrete, but we also deliver a large amount of grey concrete in Melbourne’s north and west,” David explains.

“Midway opens up a world of choice when it comes to exposed concrete designs.

“Our expert team members – with an average of 14 years with us – love to offer inspiration to people, helping them to tailor designs to suit every application and colour palette.”

Yes, Midway is clearly the destination for all things concrete, but its peerless assortment of gardening and landscaping supplies is also impressive.

Enhancing materials include aggregate, pavers, pebbles, rocks, sand, bark and soil.

Building and maintenance materials encompass concrete stumps, pier caps, and steel reinforcing, as well as hand tools and accessories, and clothing and safety equipment.

David and his team also deliver, along with those loads of good stuff, a genuine knowledge of the industry and the talent to effectively collaborate with their clients to achieve affordable and creatively satisfying outcomes.

It won’t be surprising, then, to maybe see David reach his goal of being the largest independent supplier in his region sometime soon …
