IN FOCUS: A guiding hand for caring work

Operating since 2010 in St Albans, Guidestar Training & Professional Services (Guidestar) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) providing nationally accredited qualifications that lead to careers in the aged-care and disability industry.

Operations manager Monicah says Guidestar delivers training with the student and industry in mind, giving the student the best possible preparation for roles and presenting a fully equipped quality carer to the industry.

“We place ourselves in the student’s shoes, and treat them the way we would like to be treated.

“Everyone is unique, has their own story, and is treated as an individual. An emphasis is made during training that every care recipient, whether in a nursing home or a disability organisation, is an individual with unique goals that must be respected.

“All care must be client centered, respectful and dignified,” Monicah says.

Current government-funded qualifications offered by Guidestar for those who meet the eligibility criteria include:

•CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support – leads to aged care/disability work

•CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support – leads to work in aged care

•CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability – leads to work in disability

•HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance – leads to work in a hospital environment assisting patients and working under the instruction of nurses.

All qualifications have theory and practical work placement components and each student is supported to attain competency.

Placement is in aged-care facilities or in disability organisations.

Guidestar provides a flexible learning environment with morning and evening classes three days every week. This flexibility allows students to choose times suitable for them.

Former student Christine completed a dual Certificate IV qualification in March this year.

She says, “I would recommend Guidestar Training any time to anyone wanting to complete a course. I got a job immediately after my course.”

“That is a common sentiment we hear often from our happy former students,” Monicah explains. “Give us a try and we shall help you excel.”
