Banish chills with heaps of hot style

Melbourne’s winters demand effective home heating. With so many types of heaters on the market, choosing wisely can be a challenge. Here are two ideas to consider, writes Carole Levy.

SCANDINAVIAN MINIMALISM

The Nobo Oslo range of panel heaters, in keeping with their Scandinavian styling, are white, neat and simple as can be.

Their design means heaters that are practically unnoticeable yet help create a minimalist style that easily co-exists with your other furnishings.

The panels’ arc is only 5.5 centimetres thick, so they don’t protrude unnecessarily and use minimal space. They can even be used in the bathroom to continue your style throughout the entire home.

They are perfect for homeowners and renters alike. Because of their clever top venting, they can be wall-mounted behind furniture where other heaters cannot go. Or attach castors so they can be moved from room to room.

Nobo Oslo panels are designed to withstand even the coldest of Melbourne winters. They are recommended for large bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms of about 24 square metres. They can be provided with thermostats, timers and child-locks and, with their fan-free technology, are great for significantly reduced dust and allergens.

Nobo Oslo panel heaters, ranging from 0.7kW at $299 to 2.4kW at $545, are available from a Harvey Norman store near you.

SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE

Mitsubishi Electric advanced technology in reverse-cycle inverter split-systems provides high-speed heating and cooling, with extra energy savings compared to non-inverter.

Depending on the model, Mitsubishi Electric split-systems feature a Nano Platinum Deodorising Filter for improved air quality and reduced allergens; a built-in 24-hour or weekly timer; a silent fan setting; and R32 refrigerant that enhances energy efficiency and lowers the risk of environmental harm.

With a Wi-Fi option available, the systems can be managed via a compatible device, so coming home to a cold house can be a thing of the past. And they are easy to clean, with designs that enable easy removal of front panels and air-flow vents to provide open access to fans.

Ranging from 2.5kW at $899 to 7.8kW with timer at $2599, various models of split-systems are available from Harvey Norman stores – and, until the end of July, they come with an eftpos gift card bonus.
