Lantern Festival transforms Sunshine

Sunshine Lantern Festival is celebrating its best-attended festival in its history.

Organisers believe more than 30,000 people flocked to Hampshire Road on Saturday for the 10-hour extravaganza of dance, music, colour and culture.

“We had around 10,000 people turn up last year so this year’s attendance has been unbelievable,” festival organiser Tracey Cammock said.

Under sunny skies, thousands enjoyed entertainment from the Sunshine Community Brass Band, the Vietnamese Cultural Dancers, a magic show, sizzling Bollywood performances, a stirring Maori dance, hip-hop, an all-female gypsy trio and the electric reggae grooves of Rasta Unity.
