Job help for asylum seekers
A free workshop for young asylum seekers wanting jobs will be held at Visy Cares Hub on August 26-27, noon-4pm. The workshop is part of a pathways program run by Brimbank council and the Brotherhood of St Laurence to support local asylum seekers, aged 18-30. The two-day workshop will offer one-on-one support. Short Film Festival competition
Brimbank filmmakers have until September 30 to enter the Sunshine Short Film Festival competition. Prizes up to $5000 will go to original films no longer than five minutes and featuring versions of superheroes, real or imagined. Help with preventing, ending conflict
Learn about conflict management at a free community session at Victoria University’s Sunshine Convention Centre on August 31, 6-8pm. Organised by the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria, the free session helps participants identify conflict resolution strategies to minimise and resolve conflicts that may arise in groups. It also teaches strategies to handle difficult emotions, run effective meetings and achieve consensus decision-making.

Children’s book launch
Cairnlea Community Hub and Friends of the Black Powder Mill will co-host the launch of children’s book, The Little Black Powder Mill, on the Grasslands of Cairnlea, 10am, September 8. Author Clare Brennan, artist Meredith Thomas and school groups will be at Cairnlea Community Hub, 59 Carmody Drive. And on September 1, 9.15-10.30am, people can take a free tour of the mill, watch how it works and learn local history.
