Closing the Gap

Wyperfeld Medical Clinic at Taylors Lakes will hold a free Closing the Gap event on March 23 to encourage people to participate in health promotion activities with a focus on diabetes and Indigenous health. The event will include a talk by Diabetes Victoria, a diabetes clinic, health checks, afternoon tea and showbags. Wyperfield Medical Clinic, 1 Wyperfield Ave, Taylors Lakes, 4-5pm.

Stroke support

If you or someone you know has suffered a stroke, Stroke Association Victoria’s Sunshine support group meets on the third Tuesday of each month, the next being next week, March 21, at Sunshine Library. Come along for a chat and a cuppa. 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine, 11am-12.30pm.

Garage sale

Peace Lutheran Church will hold a garage sale this Saturday, March 18, with plenty of goodies, including electrical items, kitchen ware, books, toys, clothing and furniture. Corner East Esplanade and Silvester Crescent. 9am-3pm.

 

Detox your home

Brimbank’s Detox Your Home program is back again offering a free, safe, easy-to-use service to dispose of leftover and common, toxic household chemicals. Residents can register to drop off chemicals this Saturday, March 18, 9am-1pm. Register online at sustainability.vic.gov.au/detoxyourhome, choose your preferred time slot and you’ll receive the address to drop off items on the day. Registration is required to manage traffic flow and avoid queues, which means everyone can get in and out quickly.

 

Bosnian cultural festival

Celebrate Bosnian culture and heritage with information stalls, folk dances, authentic Bosnian cuisine and entertainment. All welcome. March 18 and 19, 11am-3pm. 285-317 Station Road, Deer Park.

Bowery dance

A dynamic, free community cultural dance event will headline the opening of the new Bowery Theatre and St Albans Community Centre. Local cultural groups and dancers, of all ages, genders and ability, will come together to share and showcase the diverse dance talents in Brimbank. The project draws inspiration from the tradition of the Dance Bowery – a protected space at the heart of a cultural event where people can come together to share cultural values and beliefs.
