Australian war veterans will be commemorated at a Caroline Springs luncheon this weekend.
The event is being held in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Battle of Long Tan, one of the best-known battles in Australian history.
On August 18, 1966, members of D-Company defeated the Viet Cong even though outnumbered 20 to one.
Eighteen Australians were killed – 17 from D-Company and one from the 1st Armoured Personnel Carrier Squadron – and 21 were wounded.
Caroline Springs RSL president Peter Burquest said the luncheon was to remember all veterans.
The luncheon will run from 11am-4pm on August 14 at The Club, 1312 Western Highway, Caroline Springs.
Tickets cost $30 for RSL members and $35 for non-members. There will be a two-course meal, door prizes and drinks.
