Steamrail Victoria open day

Where: Newport rail workshops, Shea Street

When: 10am-5pm, March 12-14

Steamrail Victoria will reveal the inside of its Newport workshops, built in 1885, for three public open days during the Labour Day long weekend. The workshops will be open from 10am to 5pm daily from March 12 to 14. Bacchus Marsh Harvest Festival

Where: Bacchus Marsh

When: 9.30am-3.30pm, Sunday, March 13

The delicious delights of Bacchus Marsh will be on show during the annual Harvest Festival on Sunday. Greenvale artist Samantha Lentini says she’s rendered spellbound by Aboriginal dot paintings – and it shows in her work. Her paintings use strong lines and series of dots that express her appreciation for the Indigenous painting technique.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Where: Williamstown Botanic Gardens

When: 3pm on March 12-13

Woodend Lions Art Show

Where: St Ambrose’s Hall, Woodend

When: March 12-14

A snow landscape by Gisborne artist Helen Cottle (pictured) will be up for grabs as part of the 41st Woodend Lions Art Show. Cottle’s Cool Winter Shadows will be raffled during the Labor Day weekend event at St Ambrose’s Hall (March 12-14). This year’s show features almost $5000 in prize money. All works will be for sale.
