Helen Bertocci in awe at community support
The family of Altona North man Roger Bertocci, who was killed going to the aid of a pregnant woman being assaulted by her partner, has been the recipient of a spirited community effort. The family’s garden was given a makeover as Altona Rotary teamed up with the Jim’s Group and other organisations to fulfil Mr Bertocci’s last wish – a landscaped yard in which his youngest daughter could safely play.

Two Altona mates who opened a bakery in Sunshine two years ago caused a a stir when they were awarded Australia’s Best Pie for a New-Zealand style Thai vegetable curry vegan pie. New Zealand-born Doug Meijer and Adrian Apswoude launched Ka Pies in 2014, buying a Hampshire Road bakery which left them only $800 in the bank. The pair had no baking experience.
