40 years ago

August 4, 1976

The Federal Government has cancelled funds for the St Albans and West Sunshine community health centre. The State Hospitals and Charities Commission approved final plans for the $612,000 St Albans centre two days before last week’s Federal Government announcement.

August 6, 1986

Sparks are flying among Sunshine councillors in the wake of Saturday’s municipal election. Allegations of discrimination have been made by independent candidate Peter Portelli, who caused a major upset by defeating long serving ALP councillor Dave Berry in the North Ward.

Retailing giant Myer wants to develop a $1.5million warehouse clearance outlet in Ballarat Road, Sunshine. The announcement follows the recent closure of the Myer bargain basement.

August 8, 2006

Former Brimbank councillor Sam Tabban was on Friday committed for trial in the County Court on a charge of attempting to bribe a fellow councillor in October, 2004. Tabban was alleged to have offered Natalie Suleyman, then deputy mayor, $3000 towards her election campaign in exchange for her vote, as it was his intention to run for mayor.
