Festival shifts to Sunday

The date of the Sunshine Lantern Festival has been moved to Sunday, September 11. Originally scheduled for September 10, the Hampshire Road festival program has great entertainment, rides, fireworks, stalls, food from many nations, children’s activities, performers and the traditional lantern parade, from 10am to 8pm.

Help to join sport

Applications to Brimbank council’s In2Sport Brimbank membership subsidy program are now open. The program offers local children, aged between six and 18 years, the chance to join sport and recreation by way of a $200 grant towards club fees for families holding health care or pension concession cards. First-time applicants have priority for the first two weeks after applications open on September 1. They close December 1.

Care about cancer

A Family Fun Day on September 3 will raise money for Challenge, a charity that supports children living with cancer and their families. It’s at the former Mowbray College, corner of Lake Street and Caroline Springs Boulevard, from 10am to 4pm. There will be lots of creative cuisines and drinks to choose from, plus raffles, kids’ activities and market stalls.

Brimbank council’s free sustainable living series offers first-hand knowledge from experts and access to resources. Community market coming

Lions Club of Taylors Lakes hosts its first free community market on November 20.




Lyric Opera is giving two readers a double pass to see Our Man in Havana, valued at $140 each. Composed by lauded and outrageous Australian composer Malcolm Williamson, Our Man in Havana is a dark comedy set in a Cuban nightclub, complete with a bar, showgirls and a vacuum cleaner salesman. The passes are for the 7.30 pm show on Saturday, September 17, at The Comedy Club.
