Get online savvy

Find out how easy it is to communicate online at YouthNow’s ‘pass IT on’ program for young and old. Get one-on-one help using digital technology, including email, Facebook and Skype. Free sessions every Monday and Friday, 9.30am-noon, at Visy Cares Hub Sunshine.

Sunny-side up at station

Help put some sparkle into Sunshine station with a spring clean of its gardens and surrounds on August 21 from 1pm. Meet the clean-up team’s Butt it, Bin it mascot Barry, who will hand out portable ashtrays for smokers. Bring water. Meet at City Place outside Dragon Express Chinese.

Let’s build language

A series of bilingual seminars will be held at the new Sunshine library on August 18, 2.30-4.30pm, and August 25, 1.30-3pm featuring Professor John Hajek from the University of Melbourne. The August 18 course is for service providers, while the August 25 course is for parents, grandparents and carers wanting to teach children more than one language. Community market day

The Lions Club of Taylors Lakes will host its first free community market day on November 20. Local artisans and producers are invited to book a stall. Stallholders must be from Taylors Lakes and surrounds. Stalls $25, payable on the day, 9am-3pm, at Taylors Creek Linear Park. Community groups can book a stall, no charge for non-profits.

Help with problem drinking

Is someone you love drinking too much and you don’t know where to turn? Try Al-Anon Family Groups, a confidential support group that meets at the Uniting Church conference room, 28 Withers Street, Sunshine, every Wednesday, 10.30am-noon. New members welcome, no bookings required.
