Family winner: 1 Goodenia Place, Hillside, 3037

By Carole Levy

This meticulously presented house, two kilometres or less from Watergardens Town Centre and Catholic Regional College and a 10-minute amble from Parkwood Green Primary School, is well located for a family.

And having Parkwood Green Recreation Reserve’s playground, barbecue area, community centre and sports grounds just five minutes away by foot is the cherry on top.

Entry under a porch is to a tiled walkway, flanked on one side by an open taupe-carpeted lounge room with a wall of exposed bricks; and, on the other, the spacious main bedroom. This has a walk-in robe and an en suite with soft-grey floor tiles and the same timber-look cabinetry as found in main bathroom and kitchen.

The other two fitted bedrooms are along a short rear hallway which they share with the main bathroom and a toilet.

Abutting the neutral-tiled family-meals space, the kitchen has charcoal benches and splashback tiles which nicely complement the cabinetry’s timber tones, as well as plenty of storage, a brekkie bench for at least three, a dishwasher and underbench oven and gas cooktop. The laundry is next door.

High ceilings emphasise the feel of space, while ducted heating and evaporative cooling take care of Melbourne’s extremes.

An L-shaped pergola, with concrete underfoot, provides a couple of spots to set up seating for relaxation and entertainment.

The backyard needs the personal touch, but there’s good space for kids’ play equipment and perhaps a vegie patch.

Watergardens Town Centre has a range of eateries – many opening late – and every shopping/services need is catered for.

All this means that new owners get convenience on their doorstep and, with the surrounding arterial roads, navigation through the west and north-west is easy.
