October 15, 1975
A major rift involving Sunshine councillors has occurred in the Labor Party’s Sunshine branch. The controversy centres on a newsletter purporting to be from the branch. In an article, Sunshine councillors Don McKay, Bill Cormack and Howard Brown are ridiculed. The letter was described as “puerile and nauseating” by branch vice-president Horace Lowe. “I have seen more intelligent material displayed on a lavatory wall.”

Monsanto has won its year-long battle to build a $15 million glyphosate herbicide plant in Sunshine. The last barrier was broken last week when the Planning Appeals Board granted the chemical plant a planning permit. The only step left is to attain a building permit from Sunshine council, but that is considered a formality.

Huge trucks, larger than semi-trailers, will be allowed to travel through shopping centres in St Albans and Keilor Village. VicRoads has listed the traffic-congested Main Road East-West and the Keilor- Melton Road-Old Calder Highway route through Keilor Village as suitable for B-double trucks.

A sea of yellow swarmed through Brimbank council chambers last week as election fever set in. With only six weeks to go before Brimbank residents are asked to decide on the future of their council, members of Rescue Brimbank Together protested before last week’s meeting. All donned yellow hats and badges and called for a complete overhaul of the council.
